Other than USC can anyone honestly say there is a better team right now then Utah? I suspect if we had a playoff series Utah and USC would be playing in the final. They destroyed Alabama, end of story.
I think there are many people who follow the Mountain West Conference who right now figure their champion should be on the top. I cannot blame them. USC, who lost to Oregon State have been a dominate team lately and certainly after their Rose Bowl demolition of Penn State could argue they should be in the National Championship game.
Honestly, are the Big 12, the SEC or ACC that good? Or is it hype?
Mountain West had a better record than all but the ACC of the automatic qualifying conferences in interconference battles.
TCU and Utah are both 11-3 in their last 14 games against automatic-qualifying BCS teams.
I realize that for the BCS and those who make the money from them the arguments do not matter, but I think now is the time for at least having the MWC become an automatic qualifier and perferably some type of sensible playoff system.

ESPN just paid 500 million dollars to make sure all we have no playoff. I doubt any team could beat USC right now but after last night Utah USC would be game to watch. Nobody and that includes the whole SEC which is regarded as the best overall conference by the talking heads and computer polls could control Alabama the way Utah did. An awesome job.

I understand just as well as anyone that the current system is not working. But lets think about changing it for the right reasons. The teams like Alabama and USC expect to play in the national title game each and every year. Just because someone loses one game does not mean that they should lose their chance to play for the title. And in three cases, some undefeated teams still do not get a chance to play for the title.
Let us remember that since teams like Alabama and USC expect to play for the title game, playing in a lower game against teams like Utah or Boise State may down play the hype of the game. It does not make the players play as hard. This is why we see some of the upsets like Utah beating Alabama in this years Sugar bowl. Alabama went undefeated in the regular season until the SEC Championship in which they lost a very close game to number two Florida. What is to say that Alabama and Florida were not the best two teams?
Most people along with myself will agree that four out of the top five teams in the nation this past year were from the SEC and Big 12. It is hard to tell which two teams are the best. The only solution to this is a playoff. It needs to be at least eight teams so that it can give the undefeated “Utahs” and “Boise States” a chance as well. This is the only true solution to this problem. When you have a whole country with 112 teams playing for one national title, there is ALWAYS going to be more than two teams that deserve to play for the national championship.
