Baptism: a bonding agent

My eldest son for last little while has not wanted to do Baptisms for the dead.  I have been scratching my head as to why.  Maybe because I do not know him well enough I realize I am only now beginning to understand him.

So as the story goes the call goes out for people to go participate in the youth Baptisms yesterday.  So thinking about it I volunteered and I also dutifully wrote it on the calendar.

A few days later, Wednesday to be exact, I am looking at the calendar and notice that my note had been drawn on in a red marker.  It is about as obvious as you can get.  I felt pretty sure who the culprit was but I played the role of inquisitor for my kids and confirmed my eldest has done it.  I shake my head, laugh a little, then rewrite it in again.

Later that night as I am walking with my wife I suggest to her that maybe I need to talk with him and get a reason why he seemed so unhappy with participating.  So with that in mind I asked him why.  Thinking it might have something to do with his comfort level with the topic of dead people or his general anti-youth activities stance.

Then he said, “I do not know anyone.”
