My eldest son for last little while has not wanted to do Baptisms for the dead. I have been scratching my head as to why. Maybe because I do not know him well enough I realize I am only now beginning to understand him.
So as the story goes the call goes out for people to go participate in the youth Baptisms yesterday. So thinking about it I volunteered and I also dutifully wrote it on the calendar.
A few days later, Wednesday to be exact, I am looking at the calendar and notice that my note had been drawn on in a red marker. It is about as obvious as you can get. I felt pretty sure who the culprit was but I played the role of inquisitor for my kids and confirmed my eldest has done it. I shake my head, laugh a little, then rewrite it in again.
Later that night as I am walking with my wife I suggest to her that maybe I need to talk with him and get a reason why he seemed so unhappy with participating. So with that in mind I asked him why. Thinking it might have something to do with his comfort level with the topic of dead people or his general anti-youth activities stance.
Then he said, “I do not know anyone.”
